I don't think it'll be too much longer for the baby. Makes me wonder if I was wrong about which one of my boyfriends is the father.

She promised to stay in touch with him.

The promise wasn't broken right away. At first she called and visited every day. Then it was just a call. A few weeks later, it was texts and emails. Those faded away until she didn't contact him at all.

She called him, months later, in tears and hushed tones. She rushed into her room that day, past her mentor and the cats that she loved, and she called him. He was like her brother, her best friend. Someone she trusted with everything.

The whole story came out. The boyfriends. The fire. Almost dying. Her broken heart.

The baby.

He let her talk, and knew what to say to make it all better. Stay where she was, he'd be there soon. Lunch, hugs and tears, promises.

It was all going to be okay. Her baby would have a family. She had a family. And now she knew what to name her son.
